The importance of having a 5-year goal

Julie, where do you see Party City in 5 years from now, if you get to do what you’re set out to accomplish?

“It’s important to have a 5-year goal. However, this is a question I usually don’t answer.”

“The difficult thing with digital and retail is that 5 years is equivalent to 20 years in ‘real life’. It’s hard to say where one would like to be in 5 years with any certainty. But I can say that we want to be at the forefront of personalized service and technology enablers that create joyful memories.

“One thing is for certain, in 5 years, at Party City, we will provide a completely omni-channel experience. The digital experience, the services — be it delivery of balloons or curating and helping to inspire an augmented reality vision of what your party room would look like. I want us to be embedded in the lives of our customers in such a way that it’s easy and natural. Like Siri and Alexa, our customers should be able to create their party supported by technology whereby we will ask them questions relating to their budgets, number of guests, desired decorations, etc. This is possible, and it may not even take 5 years because all the required technology exists today. It just takes time to move a big ship like Party City in a new direction.

“We strive to be a party concierge with additional inspiration. So whether you are about to celebrate a moment with someone or about to throw a party, we want to be able to inspire you and put a smile on your face. Even if you bought nothing from our stores, the thought of Party City should bring a smile to people’s faces.

“If we can do that, we are actually helping people create memorable moments.
If your child received a good grade and walks into a room filled with balloons, he/she will remember it forever.”

Thank you for sharing your plans with us, Julie. The future for Party City sounds exciting and we’re looking forward to our next conversation.
